Beans

Beans, beans, cried the child,

Bring them spicy! Bring them mild!

Beans, beans, give me some more.

And if I don’t get them, then I’ll be sore!

Beans, beans, bring ‘em on a bun.

I’m still eating. I’m not done.

Beans, beans, pour me more, dad.

And if I don’t get them, I’ll be mad!

Beans, beans, bring ‘em while their cold.

Bring ‘em while they’re fresh. Bring ‘em when they’re old.

Beans, beans, I’m ready to eat.

Give me my beans. They’re a treat!

Beans, beans, bring ‘em on bread

I’ll eat them on chips. I’ll eat them in bed!

Beans, beans, I’ll take them in a stew.

I’ll eat ‘em with pickles and cucumbers too.

Beans, beans, if I don’t get them I’ll scream!

I’ll put them on cookies and in my ice cream.

Beans, beans, hot or cold, I don’t care.

Bring me some more and more if you dare.

Beans, beans, they’re almost all gone,

But I’m still hungry so keep piling them on.

Beans, beans–Wait! Something is rumbling.

I think it’s too late. My stomach is tumbling.

Beans, beans–Boy, this’ll spoil it.

I think I now need to run to the toilet!

Self-Control

Someone who has self-control is able to control his thoughts and appetites. For example, if the boy in the story would have had self-control, he would have been able to control his desire for more beans. But self-control goes far beyond the dinner table. God wants you to have the kind of self-control where you resist bad thoughts, wrong desires and temptations and always do what is right instead.

The Bible says in Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…”

Spoon Catapults

You Will Need:

  • A spoon
  • A small food item
  • Two small bowls
  • A Bible marked at Romans 3:23

STEP 1

Put a spoon in a small bowl so that the handle sticks out. This naturally creates a catapult.

STEP 2

Take a small food item like a marshmallow or a piece of cereal and put it inside the spoon.

STEP 3

A few feet away from your spoon-catapult, set a second bowl to be your target.

STEP 4

By flipping the tip of the spoon, try to shoot the food from one bowl to the other.

ASK—How did you do? Did you hit or miss your target?

In life we have a target too—to be perfect, just like Jesus, and all of us have fallen short.

Read Romans 3:23 from your Bible.

SAY—We’ve all done wrong things and we’ve all fallen short of God’s perfection. That’s why we all need a Savior and that’s the reason Jesus died and rose again—To make a way to take our sins away. But just because He did this, doesn’t mean that everyone will be saved. We have to make a choice to receive Christ by surrendering our lives to Him. Giving your life to Jesus is the best decision anyone can ever make.

ASK—How do you think a person gives their life to Jesus?

SAY—This is how the Bible says that a person can be “saved’ from their sin:

SAY—“A” (Ask your child to say “A” real loud.)

  • Admit that we have done wrong things and be willing to stop doing those wrong things.

SAY—“B” (Ask your child to say “B” real loud.)

  • Believe that Jesus is God’s Son who died and was raised from the dead.

SAY—“C” (Ask your child to say “C” real loud.)

  • Call on the Lord, confess our sins, and commit our life to Him.

ASK if anyone has any questions about what it means to be saved or how a person can give his or her life to Christ.

PRAY—List prayer requests and thank God that He can forgive our sin.

Beatrice, Nebraska. March 1, 1950

Everyone had a good excuse that Wednesday evening for being late to 7:30 choir practice at the Baptist Church. Ladona Vandegrift, a high school sophomore, always came early. But on this night a thorny geometry problem detained her. Torena Estes and her sister Sadie were ready to leave home on time. But their car wouldn’t start.

Mrs. Schuster could be counted on to arrive ten minutes early for practice. But she was held up at her mother’s house preparing for a later missionary meeting. Pastor Klempel and his wife, always punctual, didn’t make it at 7:30 either. His wristwatch, usually very accurate, was five minutes slow this evening.

Joyce Black felt it was so cold that she waited till the last possible minute to leave—a few minutes too long. Harvey Ahl had been invited over to a friend’s home for dinner and in the pleasant conversation lost track of time.

Even Mrs. Paul, the choir director, failed to arrive on time. She’d always come fifteen minutes early. But on this night her daughter, who played piano for the group, fell asleep. Mrs. Paul hurriedly awakened Marilyn and they rushed to finish getting ready— but drove up to the church a few minutes late. This was the first time either had ever been tardy for choir practice.

Eighteen people made up the West Side Baptist Church choir. Tonight every one of them arrived late, something that had never happened before.

No one was there at 7:30 when the basement furnace, situated directly below the choir loft, ignited a gas leak. The loft blew up; the church was demolished. Then the choir members arrived on the scene—too late.1

Reflect

Matthew 18:6 –“…but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it is better for him that a heavy millstone be hung around his neck, and that he be drowned in the depth of the sea.”

Respond

God is the Great Protector and we must also be careful to protect the children He has entrusted to our care. In what ways has God protected you? In what ways can we share God’s protection with the children to whom we minister? The children’s ministry at

Saddleback Church in California has an interesting saying when it comes to the protection of their children: “In God we trust—all others must be screened.” This is one mode of protection; what others can you think of? How about class rules? A system of discipline? An equal love for all the children? Others?

Your thoughts?

What about the Dinosaurs?

Did dinosaurs exist? If so, how do they fit with what the Bible tells us about creation? And what happened to them?

Did you know that Dinosaurs are in the Bible?

Yes, there are dinosaurs in the Bible!

Read about one in Job 40:15-24 and another in Job 41. What kind of dinosaurs do you think these were?

God’s Word is true and it has the answers we need.

Oh we, Oh woo

Oh please, oh please put on your shoe.

Oh we, oh woo, oh we, oh woo,

The smell you’ve let into the air,

Has just changed the color of my hair.

Oh we, oh woo, oh we, oh woo,

Oh please, oh please put on your shoe.

My eyes are burning. I cannot see.

Don’t you notice what you’ve done to me?

You see that green cloud hanging about,

That’s the odor your shoes have let out.

Oh we, oh woo, oh we, oh woo,

Oh please, oh please put on your shoe.

From the moment you took those dirty shoes off,

I’ve sputtered. I’ve gasped.

I’ve stuttered. I’ve coughed.

The room is spinning. I fear I’ll fall.

Could this be the end of it all?

Oh we, oh woo, oh we, oh woo,

Oh please, oh please put on your shoe.

Don’t you realize that what you do,

Affects more people than just you.

So please, I say, put on your shoe,

I beg you now and I beg again,

So this poem can finally end.

Consideration

Someone who is considerate shows personal care and concern for others and how his actions might affect them. Jesus wants us to be considerate of the people around us, and the best way to show care and concern for others is to tell them about Jesus. Your actions, such as telling people that Jesus loves them, may affect them not only today or tomorrow, but forever in heaven.

The Bible says in Ephesians 5:15, “Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise.” Be careful how you live and always do your best to be polite and kind to all people.
